Spinning Coin - 'Permo'

7/10

Over the last few years, Glasgow-based indie outfit Spinning Coin have been slowly working their way up from cult status to one of the country's most-beloved DIY groups. Combining releases of the last three years, the band have now unveiled their debut studio album 'Permo', a retro-feeling, diamond in the rough that likes to pay homage to everything that makes the UK's indie scene such a engaging place to be.

With its lo-fi production and generally weathered sound, 'Permo' instantly gives off a vibe of a band simply looking to have a good time on record. With influences ranging from US surf rock to the more contemporary underground indie movement, the band have created a warming yet engaged full-length that moves succinctly from one track to the next, delivering a very cohesive listen.

It is clear to hear from just the first few tracks exactly why so many have been talking about this band. They have such an inviting presence within their sound, and this debut release shows off not only their competent songwriting, but their sheer passion for what they do as well.
