The Stanford Family Band drop another scorcher from upcoming EP

Brighton outfit The Stanford Family Band are leaning further into their nostalgic pop instincts with the release of new single “When Lonesome”, a warm and wistful preview of their upcoming EP "Go Again" arriving July 17th.

Carrying echoes of classic 60s and 70s songwriting without feeling trapped in imitation, the track blends jangling guitars, soft piano flourishes, and layered harmonies into something that feels both familiar and refreshingly loose. There’s an effortless charm running throughout “When Lonesome” — one that recalls the melodic richness of vintage radio pop while still sitting comfortably alongside modern revivalists like The Lemon Twigs and Drugdealer.

Opening gently before steadily unfolding into a fuller, harmony-driven arrangement, the single thrives on subtle details rather than grand gestures. The production embraces a slightly worn, analogue feel, allowing the vocals and instrumentation to breathe naturally while giving the song an understated emotional pull.

Speaking about the influences behind the track, the band pointed toward a mix of classic pop and soft rock touchstones, with traces of The Carpenters and Queen finding their way into the songwriting process. That combination of sunny melodicism and reflective lyricism has quickly become central to The Stanford Family Band’s sound.

The single also signals a broader step forward for the band ahead of "Go Again", which was produced by Harry Hayes of Spotted Horses. Expanding beyond the jangly indie foundations of their earlier material, the forthcoming EP reportedly pulls from a wider palette of influences, embracing classic singer-songwriter textures and rich vocal arrangements with increasing confidence.

Already gaining attention through support slots with Love and Bananagun, as well as appearances at festivals and showcase events across the UK, The Stanford Family Band are steadily carving out a space for themselves among a new generation of artists reimagining classic pop songwriting through a modern indie lens.
