Sunflower Bean announce new album 'Mortal Primetime'

Beloved New York rock trio Sunflower Bean return reinvigorated with the announcement of their most raw and hard-fought album yet: 'Mortal Primetime', set for release on the 25th April via Lucky Number Records. Marking their first entirely self-produced record, 'Mortal Primetime' is a testament to resilience, renewal, and reclaiming control over their artistic destiny.

In the three years since 2022’s "Headful of Sugar', the members of Sunflower Bean each found themselves on separate paths, pursuing new projects and navigating personal challenges. But rather than drifting apart permanently, they found their way back to each other, reuniting with a renewed sense of purpose and a burning drive to create an album that encapsulates their journey.

“You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it,” says bassist and vocalist Julia Cumming. “This is ours, and that can’t be taken away by circumstance. We can’t take it away from each other. This moment, where we are now, is what we’ve always fought for.”

The first glimpse of 'Mortal Primetime' arrives in the form of 'Champagne Taste', a fuzzed-out anthem of reckless determination that finds Sunflower Bean at their most ferocious and free. Featuring feral guitar riffs, soaring power chords, and Cumming’s Iggy Pop-esque swagger, the track nods to the band’s long-time secret show alias while encapsulating their undying creative spirit.

“This song came after a period that felt like rock bottom for the band,” the group explains. “It’s about feeling beaten down but still driving forward, keeping faith, and continuing to create on our own terms—our Mortal Primetime.”
