'Lonely Revolution' finds Tom McQ expanding beyond the largely acoustic framework that has shaped much of his work to date. The London singer-songwriter retains the directness of a traditional troubadour, but places it within fuller arrangements that bring in bass, drums, electric guitar, keyboards and strings.

The result is a record that feels broader without losing its basic shape. His songs remain rooted in melody, observation and straightforward storytelling, with the additional instrumentation used to support rather than dominate them.

The title 'Lonely Revolution' also fits the record well. Much of his identity has been built around public performance and chance encounters, from regular busking around Covent Garden to the late-night Underground performance that introduced his music to a much wider audience. There's a communal element to that history, but also the solitude that comes with constantly moving from one audience to the next.

It's a tension that carries naturally into the album. The songs feel outward-facing, but rarely overstated, and the production keeps enough space around his voice for the writing to remain central at every turn.

As a progression, 'Lonely Revolution' makes sense. It gives his songwriting a wider frame and suggests a growing confidence in using a full band to extend ideas that began with little more than an acoustic guitar.

Thoughtful, melodic and carefully arranged, this album is a solid next step from an artist continuing to refine where traditional songwriting can sit within a more contemporary indie-folk setting.
