Bristol’s electronic landscape has welcomed an unusual new presence in the form of Tuxedo Dave, a producer and tuxedo sea urchin (Mespilia globulus), who brings a distinctly water-bound perspective to the city’s soundscape.
Credited as the first echinoderm to emerge within Bristol’s electronic community, Dave constructs his tracks using recordings gathered from rain-soaked pavements, harbour shallows and roadside run-off. His 2025 debut single 'Ground' introduces us to his immersive approach, pairing unhurried beats with hazy melodic fragments and submerged recordings of footsteps, structural hum and passing vehicles.
Working within the realities of limited movement beyond damp environments, Dave’s newest offering reflects themes of ecology, accessibility and alternative creativity. With a focus on tidal motion and saturated layers, Tuxedo Dave looks to carve out a singular niche in Bristol’s forward-thinking music community.
