Untold River, the Americana project of Manchester-born songwriter Ciaran Egan, embraces change on the beautifully reflective new single ‘Time to Start Over’.
Written during the opening stages of the pandemic, the song emerged while he was experiencing his own period of upheaval. After seven years performing and writing with his former band, he was preparing to leave the group while simultaneously moving away from city life. Against the extraordinary stillness of 2020, those changes gave him the feeling that everything was being reset at once.
‘Time to Start Over’ transforms that uncertainty into something warm and quietly optimistic. Acoustic instrumentation, banjo and keys provide its rootsy foundations, while rich harmonies from his former bandmates give the track a gorgeous Crosby, Stills & Nash-inspired character.
Drawing together Americana, alt-country and the Irish folk traditions that have accompanied him throughout his life, ‘Time to Start Over’ captures Untold River at his most intimate by finding reassurance in the idea that starting again doesn't have to mean starting from nothing.
