Villa Rivercat unveil new single 'Woodchopper'

Swedish indie-folk collective Villa Rivercat return with ‘Woodchopper’, a beautifully immersive new single that captures the emotional turbulence of life-changing decisions through soaring melodies and rich atmospheric textures.

Formed in Dalarna, the six-piece outfit continue to expand their distinctive sound on the new release, moving into more ethereal territory while retaining the folk-rooted songwriting that has become their hallmark. Produced by Sven Johansson, whose credits include work with Anna von Hausswolff and Lykke Li, ‘Woodchopper’ surrounds its emotional core with ambient soundscapes, analogue synthesisers, intricate harmonies and expansive choral arrangements.

At its heart, the song reflects on those pivotal moments when a single decision can alter the course of a life. Exploring themes of longing, healing and self-discovery, ‘Woodchopper’ balances uncertainty with a growing sense of liberation, capturing the relief that arrives once a difficult choice has finally been made.

Led by the captivating vocals of Hanna Nordqvist, Villa Rivercat weave together influences from Scandinavian folk traditions and Americana, creating a sound that recalls the emotional depth of Joni Mitchell and the expansive spirit of The Waterboys.
