Vistas - 'What Were You Hoping To Find?'

7/10

When the Scottish trio Vistas released their stunning debut album 'Everything Changes In The End' last year, it was met as a rebirth to the fun and vibrant indie-pop direction peddled by numerous factions throughout the early 2000s. It had this retro yet forward-thinking approach that gave it an enjoyable edge, and established them as an exciting collective emerging on the scene. And now barely a year later, the three-piece make their much-hyped return with their new collection 'What Were You Hoping To Find?', a record that continues that same bright and shimmering path.

Whether it was by design or simply how they look to define themselves, 'What Were You Hoping To Find?' is almost an exact continuation of where their last release left off. Not looking to disturb a formula that worked so well the first time around, they return with another bold and enticing release that packs itself with as many classic indie-pop tropes as possible, leading to some truly memorable radio-friendly belters throughout. While it may follow the avenue of their debut a little too closely, it is still distinct enough to stand on its own feet and push the sound of this group even further.

In a time when so many acts are looking to add broader and more progressive aesthetics to their music, it is very refreshing to hear a band like Vistas who are just out to have a good time. There is this effortless and carefree texture to their work, which makes it an incredibly easy and upbeat listen from start to finish.
