Lo Moon - 'A Modern Life'

7/10

After the release of their stunning self-titled debut album in 2018, Lo Moon found themselves as one of the most respected and ambitious new names working at the time. Their distinctive venture into the warmer and more atmospheric side of the indie-rock sound gave them an instantly recognisable feel that earned them countless praise in the years since. Now after a near four-year silence since that last release, they return once again to deliver another heady dose of vibrant aesthetics on their long-awaited sophomore studio album 'A Modern Life', a record that looks to continue what they once started.

From the very beginning, it feels like no time has passed at all between the two full-lengths. 'A Modern Life' picks up the torch almost straight away as they churn out one euphoric and uplifting gem after another, showing us that they are still very much in command of their formative ideal. And although a lack of evolution can sometimes hinder an act's next offering, for Lo Moon, they have still managed to find plenty of new avenues to explore within their original guise, creating this wonderful continuation that breathes and soars as often as possible.

There is this simple beauty to what they have unveiled on 'A Modern Life'. While not usually venturing into the bigger and more cacophonous side of their direction to date, the band have still managed to share a beautifully rich and alluring release, filled with fresh and exciting ideas that keep the momentum ever moving forward.
