British songwriter and alt-J frontman Joe Newman steps into a new creative chapter with the release of his debut solo single 'Brush Me Like A Horse', under the moniker JJerome87.
Blending blues, Motown swing, and California sunshine, the track marks a striking stylistic departure from Newman’s work with the Mercury Prize-winning alt-J. Produced in Los Angeles by Carlos De La Garza, the song features a rich ensemble of live musicians and soulful female backing vocals, creating a vibrant sonic palette that feels at once nostalgic and eccentric.
'Brush Me Like A Horse' is the first glimpse into a forthcoming full-length solo project and comes alongside the announcement of Newman’s signing to Mushroom Music / Virgin Music Group. He will debut the track live on February 17 at Sid The Cat Auditorium, Los Angeles, joined by the same ensemble that helped shape the record.
