Cornish pianist and composer Tom Quirke continues to establish his evocative contemporary classical sound with ‘First Light’, a gorgeous new composition shaped by the landscape surrounding his St Ives home.
Led by expressive solo piano and complemented by understated strings, the piece takes its inspiration from daybreak across the Cornish shoreline. He allows the arrangement to unfold patiently, creating a sense of darkness slowly lifting as warmer, more optimistic tones emerge.
‘First Light’ follows previous compositions ‘TORN’, ‘Sunday Morning’ and ‘Evening in St Ives’, further developing a catalogue in which location, atmosphere and emotion are closely intertwined.
