Disco legend Norma Jean Wright celebrates the genre that helped define her remarkable career with new single ‘Ode To Disco’.
Arriving around the anniversary of 1979’s infamous 'Disco Demolition Night', the track offers a joyful counterpoint to that moment in history. Wright revisits disco’s enormous cultural impact, paying homage to the clubs, DJs and performers who turned dance floors into spaces for freedom and togetherness. Studio 54, Paradise Garage and The Loft are among the landmarks referenced along the way.
Produced by longtime collaborator Bert Price, ‘Ode To Disco’ began with lyrics written by British disco devotee Mark “Sparky” Wools before Wright developed its melody and hook. An extensive collection of alternate versions also accompanies the release, moving through classic club sounds, jazz-house and contemporary nu-disco.
As CHIC’s original lead vocalist and a collaborator with figures including Luther Vandross, Sister Sledge and Aretha Franklin, Norma Jean Wright brings considerable history to the song.
