Groningen electronic rock duo Velocity Made Good return with 'One Night in Between', the third single from their forthcoming EP, 'Big Breakers', out October 16th
A noticeable departure from the heavier, more dance-driven material they’ve released so far, the track finds the duo in a much more subdued space. Built around sparse synths, drums and fragmented vocal loops, it’s a stripped-back and atmospheric moment that lets the tension sit rather than explode.
The song takes inspiration from the mysterious disappearance of Groningen-born artist Bas Jan Ader, who vanished in 1975 while attempting to sail solo across the Atlantic as part of his final project, 'In Search of the Miraculous'. Ader’s journey was never completed, leaving behind one of art’s enduring unanswered questions.
That sense of uncertainty feeds directly into the track, with Velocity Made Good exploring the space between ambition and its limits — a fitting theme for a duo whose own music has always been closely tied to the sea.
'One Night in Between' arrives ahead of 'Big Breakers', a record that marks a shift in the band's identity. Following a period of touring and uncertainty about what came next, the duo arrived at a simple conclusion: they weren’t an electronic act borrowing from rock. They were a rock band.
Produced and mixed by Josh Baxter and mastered by Matt Colton, 'Big Breakers' pushes that idea further, combining analogue electronics with the physical force of a live rock record.
