Rotterdam project Suzy Pine dives into the bittersweet pull of impossible romance on their beautifully layered new single ‘Whispered Dreams’.
Built around a love that felt wonderful despite having no real future, the track captures two people imagining a life together while knowing it will eventually slip away. Its tension unfolds through an immersive arrangement of synths, melodic bass, harmonised vocals and Latin-inspired percussion, transforming an intimate memory into something wonderfully atmospheric.
Remarkably, ‘Whispered Dreams’ originally existed as a piano ballad. Singer-songwriter Suzanne reunited with longtime friend, guitarist, composer and sound designer Pepijn in his Rotterdam studio, where the pair dismantled the original arrangement and rebuilt it through experimentation. Even its ocean sounds were created organically, with Pepijn slowly circling brushes across a snare to imitate waves.
