Victor V. Gurbo shares new single 'The Ballad of Renée Nicole Good'

American roots singer-songwriter Victor V. Gurbo has released ‘The Ballad of Renée Nicole Good’, a contemporary protest song responding to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old mother Renée Nicole Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on the 7th January 2026. Good’s death and the circumstances surrounding the shooting became the subject of national controversy, with federal officials and local authorities offering sharply conflicting accounts.

The track draws directly from the American folk protest tradition, pairing the singer-songwriter's vocals and acoustic guitar with electric guitar from Mark Caserta and cello by Katie Chambers.

For the artist, whose work combines folk, country and blues, the release continues a growing focus on topical songwriting, using the traditional ballad form to document contemporary American events while questioning power, immigration enforcement and political accountability.
