Baby Dave, the solo project of Soft Play’s Isaac Holman, joins forces with rising producer and songwriter The Works on ‘Wings’, out October 2nd.
A hypnotic collision of alternative electronica, rave, disco and spoken word, the track pairs Holman’s unmistakable delivery with floating vocal fragments, spacious synths, clipped guitars and a driving dancefloor pulse. Somewhere between the left-field experimentation of Headache and the raw immediacy of The Streets, ‘Wings’ manages to feel both otherworldly and built for 2am.
Inspired by a moth Holman spotted in the gym, the track ultimately expands into something far bigger — touching on raves, humanity, change and the strange things that connect us.
The single marks the first in a series of forthcoming collaborations between Holman and The Works, aka 23-year-old producer and multi-instrumentalist Erik Miles, whose credits include Soft Play, Kate Nash, Baby Dave and HotWax.
With Soft Play’s three UK Top 10 albums and Mercury Prize nomination behind him, ‘Wings’ offers another glimpse into Holman’s more experimental side — and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
