Manchester’s indie-pop disruptors Autocamper return with 'Proper', a sparkling new single lifted from their forthcoming debut album 'What Do You Do All Day?', out on the 11th July via Safe Suburban Home and Slumberland Records (US).
A breezy yet emotionally grounded slice of jangly optimism, 'Proper' finds the band leaning into sun-dappled melodies and lo-fi charm, pairing their signature wry lyricism with a knowingly wide-eyed, harmony-rich chorus. Singer Jack Harkins describes the track as “an exercise in optimism… with all the uncertainties and vulnerabilities attached.” The result lands somewhere between a kitchen sink daydream and a delightfully unfiltered pop pastiche, echoing the retro innocence of Left Banke with a Northern deadpan twist.
Autocamper’s take on indie-pop dodges nostalgia traps, instead channelling the spirit of the ‘80s without falling into C86 cosplay. 'Proper' showcases their knack for wrapping awkward emotions and everyday dramas in lush hooks and chiming guitars, a standout preview from a debut that promises both wit and warmth in equal measure.
