Catholic Action - 'In Memory Of'

7/10

After spending much of the year releasing one brilliantly catchy single after another, Glasgow's Catholic Action have emerged from near complete obscurity to become one of the most talked about new bands in the country. And with an ever-building collection of great tracks so far, the indie-rocksters unveil their highly-anticipated debut album 'In Memory Of', a record that has just as much excitement in it as we would have expected.

Featuring a number of their already known singles, such as 'Propaganda', 'Black & White' and 'L.U.V.', 'In Memory Of' seems to be one of those albums that have soaked up the last 30 years of British indie music and unleashed back out with a sense of gusto and bold intentions. It is almost impossible to listen to this album and not get exactly what kind of bands these guys took their influences from, making it feel familiar but with an edge that seems unique to the Scottish outfit.

But rather than just regurgitate the past, Catholic Action have made their debut as diverse as possible, mixing up the pace and creating a real flow within the sound of the record itself. A confident release from a band that still has plenty to say.
