Gee Whiz! drop new single 'Fireworks'

Gee Whiz! (exclamation mark absolutely mandatory) arrive in a blaze of distortion and delirium with 'Fireworks', a track that feels like piling into a car at midnight with your closest friends and no fixed destination. It’s reckless, euphoric, and buzzing with the kind of voltage that only happens when seasoned musicians decide to let instinct drive.

Clocking in at just under two breathless minutes, 'Big Fireworks' wastes no time in detonating. The guitars snarl and splinter, the bassline barrels forward with a grinning menace, and the drums push everything to the brink of collapse. There’s a glorious scruffiness to it, the sound of players who know exactly what they’re doing but choose chaos anyway.

Formed by a collection of Italian scene veterans, Gee Whiz! make for a joyful collision. You can hear decades of indie and alternative history ricocheting through the track, with hints of Britpop swagger, lo-fi crunch, and the slightly unhinged glee of 90s alt-rock. But none of it feels derivative. It’s homage filtered through mischief.

Lyrically, 'Big Fireworks' hints at abandon and misdirection, with pockets buzzing, highways stretching into nowhere, and a sense that lift-off is imminent. There’s something cinematic in its energy, like the moment before a fuse reaches the charge, and the title couldn’t be more apt.

As a preview of the forthcoming self-titled album landing in early March, it suggests a record built on pure impulse. After the warped charm of previous single 'Mr. Dinosaur', this new offering doubles down on exhilaration. It’s loud, it’s messy, and it’s alive.
