What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The fiddle has always been a mesmerising instrument to me. I love that it can be played in so many different genres of music. Still to this day it’s the one instrument that can stop me in my tracks.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I loved anything by Aretha Franklin and Shania Twain, so music made by sassy women you could say. I admired them so much for how much their songs empowered me and inspired me to perform.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Fly by The (Dixie) Chicks

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

I have a few. But I’ll go with my gut, and the first one that came to mind is “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I like to journal for a few minutes first to get the words flowing and work through some stagnant thoughts.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I am loving the recent releases from Maggie Rose, Kaitlyn Butts and Sierra Ferrell.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Chris Stapleton… And hope that he’d bring me back out to sing one together.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Connection - whether it be with the audience or fellow artists. I never get tired of the opportunities to share with and learn from others. It’s such a special part of the human experience to share something from your heart and have someone relate to it.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The pressure to be creating constantly is tough. You don’t just have to write and record anymore. Building an online presence and following is a big part of the industry these days.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Be yourself. It’s so simple and yet can be so difficult at times. But I’ve found in the end, I’m always proud to have stayed true to myself.
