Getting To Know... D'chrome Foster

Brooklyn-born storyteller and genre-bender D’chrome Foster is back, and this time, he’s letting loose. Known for blending the emotional depth of classic R&B with the magnetic pulse of modern hip-hop, D’chrome’s new single 'Right Now' featuring BBass sees him stepping confidently onto the dancefloor. The bouncy, flirtatious anthem comes paired with a vibrant animated music video by Aeophex, spotlighting a moment of unexpected reunion that flips into a night of spontaneous energy.

But there’s more to D’chrome than just club-ready swagger. A classically trained actor with Off-Broadway acclaim and a writer at heart, his work always carries an undercurrent of narrative and honesty, whether he’s exploring love, identity, or the chaos of the now. With 'Right Now', he offers a playful detour, but it’s still unmistakably D’chrome: textured, intentional, and alive with personality.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The saxophone. At 11 it felt sexy and masculine. But I went to a public middle school in Brooklyn, NY and they only had one alto saxophone left. Mr. Blanc, our music teacher, took me and an Italian kid, Phil into the hallway. He pulled out a die and we rolled for the last sax. I lost. I spent the next 6 years on the trombone. I love that too.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

My parents are from the Caribbean so it was calypso and Reggie first. The early eighties pop next. Then hip and r&b took over my soul.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Bob Marley-Legend, George Michael- Faith, Michael Jackson- Thriller.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Queen- another one bites the dust. Staying Alive by the BeeGees is a close second.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Collaborating and getting in touch with nature. My favorite studio is an hour away from Niagara Falls. It inspired me.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

No one right now. When I am in a creative space I rather see what emerges sans influence.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Dua Lipa

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The feedback! People are surprisingly known and super honest about music. They’ll let you know.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Marketing.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Just put the song out. Fast. When it’s done, it’s done.
