Following on from the release of their highly-praised EP 'Raining For You' last year, Ida Mae recently returned to announce the details behind their new studio album 'Click Click Domino' with the record's title-track.
Lifted from their forthcoming LP, which arrives on the 16th July via Thirty Tigers, 'Click Click Domino' sees the band return in anthemic form. Taking their cues from the likes of The Kills and Band Of Skulls, the new offering is jam-packed with killer riffs and insatiable hooks throughout.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has inspired them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
I first fell head over heels for the guitar. My dad had a cheap Fender Stratocaster copy that he cut holes into so it looked like something out of a 1970s Glam Rock band. That was in the house but the intrigue really began when I went round a kid’s house down the road and learned he could play a few chords. His dad had a few guitars hidden away in the front room under the sofa…I can remember the first time he opened up those big cold leather guitar cases. I quickly became totally hooked.
What kind of music did you love as a teenager?
Everything rock. Started as we did in the 00’s with Nirvana and quickly moved on to The Rolling Stones, Free, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix and then that shifted into the Detroit Garage Blues scene - The Kills, The White Stripes and then into acoustic blues and Songwriters. I was always surrounded by JJ Cale, John Martyn and tons of Choral Music growing up.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Shania Twain ‘Come on Over’. Classic. No Shame!
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Almost an impossible question. Maybe ‘I Envy The Wind’ by Lucinda Williams….or ‘Meet On The Ledge’ by Fairport Convention….or one Dylan song..something off ‘Highway 61 Revisted’…or one of this Booker T & The MG’s Stax instrumentals…or ‘Hotel Vast Horizon’ by Chris Whitley….or some massive Christmas Smash Hit from the 70s…that one by Slade haha.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I never like to start unless I’m really happy with the first lines. Copious amounts of Yorkshire Tea.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Toots & The Maytals / Nick Cave & Warren Ellis / Ebo Taylor / Sandy Denny.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
The Rolling Stones!
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
When people sing your songs back to you and when we receive messages hearing about a special moment in someones life that our music has become a part of. That and having the great privilege of travelling and meeting so many people across the world from all walks of life.
And what is the most frustrating part?
The industry behind it.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
I always remember a Muddy Waters quote someone told me, something like “I’m not doing anything that Mozart hasn’t done before me”. A powerful statement to remind us that purity of intention and simplicity is key in everything, as a musician we are all here to move people.
