What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Anthony: Guitar was the first instrument I fell in love with. We grew up listening to The Beatles, Prince, Michael Jackson, but no instruments at that time stood out. It wasn't until I went through our dad’s record collection at around 10 or 11 years old and listened to Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page that I fell in love with guitar, that was the first time I thought that’s what I want to do and have been failing to do so ever since.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

Anthony: I think at its core most of our music is inspired from a feeling of isolation and alienation, and the need and love to do something creative because it gives my life meaning and fulfillment. When I struggle to find meaning and fulfillment, creativity helps bring me back to my purpose.

How many of your songs have you written about people you wish you’d rather forget?

Dave: None actually. I tend to write songs only about myself, I guess that’s why Anthony writes all the songs.

What music did you love as a teenager?

Anthony: We grew up with a healthy dose of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath from our dad who brainwashed us pretty darn good. Later we were drawn to artists like Alice and Chains, Metallica, Neil Young, The Cure, Nirvana, Soundgarden a lot of heavier darker stuff.

What do you find is the best environment to find inspiration for your music?

Anthony: Solitude, whether alone in a room or a long walk in nature. For this album Dave and I spent 6 weeks in Costa Rica on a deserted beach with no wifi, minimal technology and a pack of wild dogs. Some of the instruments we recorded there are still on our upcoming album, like the guitars on “All Things Future and Past”.

Who are your favorite artists you’ve found yourself listening to at the moment?

Anthony: FKA Twigs is a huge inspiration at the moment both musically and visually with her music videos. Armand Hammer’s new album Shrines which our producer Willie Green worked on, all brilliant artists! Also Aphex Twin is on heavy rotation and of course Hall and Oates because you just have to.

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Dave: NBA Champion. There was only ever going to be two options for both of us, we chose the longevity and stability that music offers.

What has been the funniest moment in your career so far?

Dave: While recording the demos for this record. The two of us and Anthony’s Dog (Bowie) stuck in the jungle in Costa Rica, at dusk, staring at our rental car that I had just driven into a river... spoiler alert, we survived, after spilling many of our own tears and coming close to a screaming match with each other in public. Gosh we are so like Noel and Liam.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Dave: Oasis! This interview will probably become the catalyst for them getting back together, which means that they have to take us out on the road with them.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Dave: Quit before you turn 24. Sound advice, yet year after year we continue to punish ourselves and ignore it.
