Getting To Know... Lisey Tigra

Few artists are rewriting the rules of genre quite like Lisey Tigra. The British-Colombian singer, songwriter, and trailblazer behind the self-coined genre rocketon has spent the past year lighting up stages from Glastonbury’s Shangri-La to The Jazz Café, and now, she’s closing out 2025 with a vibrant nod to her roots. Her latest single 'BANDIDA' is a seductive throwback to the golden era of early-2000s reggaetón, fused with modern pop production and Tigra’s unmistakable twist.

Written in her hometown of Bogotá, 'BANDIDA' began with guitar and melody; evolving into a bold, hook-filled anthem that pulses with both nostalgia and futuristic flair. It’s the perfect teaser ahead of her upcoming debut album 'LT', arriving on the 21st November.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I started playing piano. That was the first instrument I fell in love with and I was actually quite good at it until I realised playing guitar was much cooler and I never went back.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I grew up listening to reggaeton, salsa and vallenato. I’m not proud to admit it now but I spent a lot of my childhood and early adolescence downloading the most obscure reggaeton tracks on Ares (the Latin version of Limewire). Then I discovered rock, especially 70s and 80s rock and that became my obsession and the reason why I started playing guitar.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Michael Jackson’s Dangerous. It’s still one of my all time favourite albums.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Maria Becerra - AUTOMÁTICO. I would’ve put some heavyyy ahh guitars in there and made it rocketón. It’s such a good track.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I’m a coffee addict so I just pick up an oat latte before the session and I’m ready.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’m going through another heavy metal phase at the moment so I'm listening to a lot of Sleep Token, Parkway Drive and Marilyn Manson. But also old school reggaeton like Zion y Lennox and Don Omar. My playlist is an interesting mix.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Nathy Peluso. Love her so much.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Pursuing my music career has taken me to really interesting places and led me to meet people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise. Music leads to lots of deep connections. It’s the friends we made along the way.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Three words. Short form content.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

If you don’t believe in yourself and what you do, how do you expect others to believe in it?
