Getting To Know... pointless

For Berlin-based heavy rock band pointless, 2026 begins with a bang. Their new single 'Give Me A Sign' marks a bold step forward, a high-octane glimpse into their upcoming EP 'Tension for Closure', due out on the 20th February.

Since their emergence in 2023, poıntless have carved out a space of their own, blending crushing riffs and dual-vocal harmonies with melodic sensibility, punk urgency, and a progressive edge. Early singles like 'Deadly Temptations' and 'Double Time' laid the groundwork, but it’s 'Give Me A Sign' that signals a new era: more refined, more intense, and emotionally resonant.

So we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and influences over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The Drums. When I was a kid, my dad (who’s a classical musician) bought me a snare drum and later a small drum kit. It took a while to really understand the power of the instrument. This happened in high school, when my music teacher made me play in the school band, where I discovered how fulfilling and fun it is to play with other people and how important the drums are for the feel of a song (although I switched to guitar and singing later on).

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

First a lot of old-school rock music, such as AC/DC, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, Deep Purple or Motörhead. Later I got into Nu Metal and 2000s guitar music such as System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold or Billy Talent.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I bought AC/DC’s Black Album as a CD with my pocket money. Listened to it a lot, which can be seen from the condition of the copy these days.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

There are a lot, especially evergreens that have endured for decades, such as Yesterday by Paul McCartney, Hotel California by the Eagles or jazz standards such as Fly Me to the Moon. As for newer songs, I really love “A little piece of Heaven” by Avenged Sevenfold for its somewhat circusy and dramatic approach to a metal song.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Mostly I start off with a minor chord or arpeggio and see where it leads me. Sometimes I just come up with an inspiring melody line that triggers some emotion in me. I often go through some of my musical vocabulary to try if it fits the songs and if it sounds boring I search online for cool licks, progressions, rhythms or other inspirations. Subconsciously, I often kind write a song similar to what I’m listening to at the time, although this is definitively not unique about me at all.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

In terms of guitar-based music I’ve been listening to Radiohead a lot recently. It takes a while to get it, but once you do it really has a unique flavor to it. In terms of other genres, I’ve been listening to a prog band called “Thank you scientist”, some Piano pieces by Franz Liszt as well as some classic pop artists like ABBA or Celine Dion.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Probably either Avenged Sevenfold or System of a Down, as these are the artists I listened to the most and would love to meet them in person.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Coming up with a song, putting all the work into getting it done and then being able to present it to people, if people get it and can find joy in it.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Continuously investing time and money without any feeling of progress or accomplishment.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Seems kind of cliché but in the end music as well as art in general is all about feelings and emotion. Therefore it can only work for you as a musician as well as your audience if you really feel what you’re doing. I guess you could break it down to: be authentic.
