Getting To Know... Zabriskie

Swiss shoegaze outfit Zabriskie are continuing to push the boundaries of their sound with the announcement of their new EP 'Ghosts In Time', a richly atmospheric collection that further cements their reputation as one of the most captivating names emerging from Europe’s alternative underground.

Led by the stunning new single 'Stone Temple', the Zurich-based trio blend swirling shoegaze textures, dream-pop beauty, and alternative rock intensity into a sound that feels both expansive and deeply human. Built on decades of musical experience and a creative partnership that stretches back to the 1990s, Zabriskie have spent years refining their immersive approach to songwriting.

So with the new EP out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

Guitar

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

My mother used to listen a lot to Elvis when I was a kid and I remember sitting in front of the speakers and listening in awe. Later, when I got my first stereo I listened a lot to the radio and made mix tapes of the songs that were on the weekly charts. In high school I got into rock music and then things took off…

What was the first album you remember owning?

It was either a cassette tape of “Some Great Reward” by Depeche Mode or a vinyl compilation of “Neue Deutsche Welle” (German new wave) with Nena and Spider Murphy Gang on it.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Purple Rain

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I don’t have a special ritual, but picking up a guitar at the right moment usually works.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Slowdive, Nothing, Mogwai, Beach House, Wisp.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Slowdive

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The moment we play one of our songs, be it at a rehearsal or at a gig.

And what is the most frustrating part?

When you send out applications to bookers with your latest release and everything you worked on for so long and nothing happens.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Believe in yourself.
