Home Counties announce new album 'Humdrum'

London six-piece Home Counties have announced their hotly anticipated second album 'Humdrum', set for release on the 24th October via Submarine Cat Records. Produced by Al Doyle (Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem), 'Humdrum' follows their acclaimed 2024 debut 'Exactly As It Seems' and signals a sharper, leaner evolution for the band.

To mark the announcement, Home Counties have shared the album’s sardonic title track. The single 'Humdrum' explores the awkward fallout of social misfires and the agony of replaying cringeworthy moments in your head. Singer Will Harrison explains, “It’s about feeling held back by saying the wrong thing and being jealous of people who talk shit and still succeed. It’s saying I want dumb luck too.”

Described as an album about communication, 'Humdrum' captures the tension between saying too much and not enough, the quiet envy of those who breeze through life with effortless charm, and the dizzying spiral of overthinking. With dual lead vocalists Will Harrison and Lois Kelly, the record promises wiry grooves, vintage synth textures that shift from menace to euphoria, and razor-sharp pop sensibility.

Reflecting on working with Al Doyle, the band shares: “We made full use of his incredible collection of analogue synths and loved the freedom to experiment and refine sounds. Al’s instinct for restraint helped the songs build in a dynamic, more human way.”
