La Need Machine - 'Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!'

7/10

Ever since they first emerged, Seattle-based outfit La Need Machine have always looked to add a broader and more immersive direction to the modern indie-rock sound. Regularly adopting a warmer and more progressive edge to everything they do, their tenure to date has been filled with rich and mesmerising offerings, all looking to add something new and interesting to their ever-evolving sound. And with plenty of praise for their recent releases, they are now looking to cement their dynamic legacy to date with their eagerly-awaited debut album 'Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!', a record that continues that enigmatic nature they have earned a reputation for.

Keeping much in the same uplifting vein they have always pursued, 'Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!' comes across as a wildly fresh and enjoyable listen right from the off. Bringing together this shimmering aesthetic with some brilliantly engaging lyrics as often as possible, this new ten-track collection finds them in one of their more revitalised guises to date. Equal parts sweeping and anthemic, La Need Machine are breaking out of their formative shells to deliver some of their most spellbinding material to date, all coming together with this infectious synergy throughout.

It has certainly been a busy and productive time these last few years, but 'Pourquoi? C'est L'Amour!' cements them as one of the more exciting names emerging from the underground right now. With such a strong and commanding grasp over their direction at every turn, La Need Machine are certainly looking to turn plenty of heads with this one.
