The Libertines sign to Virgin EMI, announce new album

It's a comeback that we all knew was imminent, but today The Libertines finally put pen to paper to sign a new record deal in order to release another studio album.

Signing the deal in Thailand, where frontman Pete Doherty is currently in rehab, the band have agreed to put their next record out with Virgin EMI, their first since their self-titled sophomore album back in 2004.

Carl Barât said in the press release, "After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn't be more excited." While Doherty seemed more overwhelmed, adding, "I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy... It was a beautiful day."

The Libertines had been playing a number of shows earlier this year and even hinted at recording new material early next year. This now looks to confirm all the rumours of a comeback and sets new rumours ablaze about which festival will nab them in the summer.
