Mercury Prize 2016 nominees revealed

The nominations of each Mercury Prize are usually a mixed and diverse affair, but this year seems to have gone one better as the twelve albums shortlisted look to be their most eclectic to date.

While the big hitters such as David Bowie, Radiohead and Laura Mvula have obviously made the cut, both Skepta and Kano are representing the reemerging grime scene on this year's list. There are also several nods for the long-awaited comebacks from Bat For Lashes, Jamie Woon and Michael Kiwanuka.

And while David Bowie's 'Blackstar' has been the bookie's favourite since before the nominations were announced, there is always the chance for a surprise winner come the 15th September. Check out the full list of nominees below.

Skepta - ‘Konnichiwa’
Bat For Lashes - ‘The Bride’
The 1975 - ‘i like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it’
Savages - ‘Adore Life’
David Bowie - ‘Blackstar’
Radiohead - ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’
Michael Kiwanuka - ‘Love & Hate’
ANOHNI - ‘Hopelessness’
Jamie Woon - ‘Making Time’
