Coming from the ever-inventive musical nation of Canada, the debut album of Sally Dige is a strange yet familiar creature. Sounding like a female Robert Smith fronting Kraftwerk, Dige's affiliation with the 80s synth-pop sound is more than apparent and has given this new full-length a recognisable feel that still seems to fit in with the contemporary dynamic.

While we could talk for hours about who Sally Dige seems to have taken inspiration from, what she has done with those influences is combine in order to make a record that expresses who she is as an artist. As her closest recent comparison would be Charli XCX, you realise that 'Hard To Please' is actually more forward-thinking than it first comes across. Her depressed demeanour creates a record without any sign of glossy pop and results in a far more engaging release.

It may not be the most interesting new album, and with only eight tracks it does drop off far too quickly. But the quality of music and songwriting shows that she does have a solid focus and is looking to force her own path within the industry.
