Velocity Made Good announce new EP with explosive single

Dutch duo Velocity Made Good are pushing deeper into abrasive electronic rock territory with new single “Big Breakers,” the first taste of an EP arriving October 16th.

Where earlier VMG releases often felt exploratory and atmospheric, “Big Breakers” lands with a far more direct sense of purpose. Layers of distorted synths grind against live drums and towering walls of amplifier noise, creating something that feels closer to a basement rock show than a traditional electronic production.

At the centre of the track is drummer Wytse Dijkstra’s experience with self-doubt — specifically the exhausting cycle of comparison that can creep into making music. Instead of disguising that tension, the band use it as fuel.

“Eventually you either stop because of those thoughts or you learn to play through them,” VMG say. “This song came from trying to choose the second option.”

The track was recorded in an abandoned school in Groningen alongside Josh Baxter of PVA, with the duo deliberately chasing a rougher and more physical sound. Much of the material was reamped through oversized speaker setups inside empty rooms, capturing the natural chaos and resonance of the building itself rather than polishing everything digitally.

That approach seems to mirror a broader shift happening within the band. “Big Breakers” is their first release to feature vocals prominently, but more importantly it feels like the point where VMG stop sitting between scenes and fully commit to being a rock band — albeit one built from sequencers, breakbeats and electronic textures as much as guitars.

You can still hear traces of the group’s long-standing influences, from the heaviness of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple to the rhythmic pulse of LCD Soundsystem and The Chemical Brothers, but “Big Breakers” feels less concerned with reference points than anything they’ve released before.

The full “Big Breakers” EP is set for release on October 16th 2026. Stream it's first offering in the player below
