The Thermals - 'We Disappear'

6/10

As one of the stalwart names in 21st century American rock, The Thermals have been unusually quiet recently. After releasing their first six albums in just under a decade, we have had to wait three years for full-length number seven, but was it worth the wait?

The Thermals have always managed to create a rowdy and rambunctious sound with each of their releases, and 'We Disappear' is no different. And while a lot of their controversial imagery and lyrical content remains a little absent from this release, it still manages to pack a mighty punch. Splicing a pop dynamic with their usual fuzzed out distortion has given them a powerful edge that both aids and brightens their musical preferences.

Most of the album may be somewhat so-so in its direction, but it still has its moments of wonder that make it worth waiting to hear. More anthems for their ever-growing arsenal that will no doubt transfer brilliantly in a live atmosphere.
