Eliza & The Bear - 'Eliza & The Bear'

5/10

Having already invaded our brains over the last few months with their incredibly catchy single 'Friends', indie darlings Eliza & The Bear deliver the first official benchmark of their career, a self-titled studio album. With high expectations and a fast-growing fanbase, a lot is riding on the fortune of this new full-length and certainly sounds like the band have tried their best to make it work.

But just like all "landfill indie" of the last decade, Eliza & The Bear just aren't the album making type. A confident blast of singles yes, but ask them to create an eleven-track release and suddenly you find yourself awash with fillers and b-sides that should have been left out of their catalogue. While it does have its moments, this new release just can't maintain the start it gives itself.

While it obviously gives them a huge number of familiar tracks for their fans to sing along to at their upcoming festival dates, this record is still relying on the weight of its opening single. It's a shame but it looks like another one-hit wonder for the indie parade once again.
