Panda Bear & Sonic Boom announce new album 'A ? of WHEN'

Experimental pop visionaries Panda Bear and Sonic Boom have announced their second collaborative album 'A ? of WHEN', arriving on the 10th July via Domino.

Following the acclaimed success of 2022’s 'Reset', the duo return with a record that expands their playful sonic universe while taking aim at some of the defining anxieties of modern life. Across ten tracks, the pair weave together an imaginative mix of harp, steel drums, pedal steel, mariachi instrumentation and psychedelic pop experimentation, creating a record that feels both joyful and thought-provoking.

While the album bursts with colour and musical curiosity, its themes are rooted in contemporary concerns, from digital overload and environmental uncertainty to political unrest and the search for genuine human connection. In a deliberate move away from online culture, the duo have also confirmed the album will not be available on streaming services, instead encouraging fans to engage through radio, live events, listening sessions and physical formats.

The title-track is available now, offering a vibrant first taste of the album’s inventive spirit. Despite its playful melodies and sunny energy, the song reflects on the consequences of collective inaction and the challenges facing the modern world.

Featuring contributions from acclaimed harpist Mary Lattimore, Daniel O’Sullivan and members of Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto Pérez, 'A ? of WHEN' promises to be one of the year’s most adventurous and thought-provoking releases.
