Objekts in the Mirror - 'The Last Oasis'

7/10

There’s a deliberate sense of distance and depth running through 'The Last Oasis'. Rather than presenting itself as a conventional release, Objekts in the Mirror unfold into a more conceptual space, where sound is used to explore emotional states as much as musical ideas.

At the centre is 'The Last Illuminated Oasis of Mystery' by Robotek Reagan, a piece that leans heavily into atmosphere. Built from drifting vocal textures, delicate tonal chimes, and slow-moving harmonic layers, there’s a sense of gradual erosion in the arrangement, as if the music itself is fading or dissolving over time. It’s immersive, but also intentionally sparse, leaving room for interpretation as it plays.

In contrast, 'You Made Her Cry' from Anthony Middleton operates on a more immediate emotional plane. Created quickly in response to a personal moment, it carries a different kind of weight. The structure is still restrained, but the intent feels more direct. Melancholy runs through the composition as something that shifts, moving from tension toward a quieter sense of resolution.

What connects the two pieces is their shared focus on transformation. Both tracks take difficult or complex ideas and translate them into sound without overcomplicating the delivery. There’s a clarity in that approach, even when the music itself remains abstract.

As a release, 'The Last Oasis' reflects the broader ethos of Objekts in the Mirror. It sits outside commercial expectations, prioritising exploration over accessibility. The production avoids excess, favouring space and subtle movement, allowing each element to develop at its own pace.
